Bahrain operations
The long and rich friendship between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of India is founded on trust and a strong trade partnership since the time of the Dilmun and Indus Valley civilisations.
New India Assurance began insurance operations in Bahrain in 1959 through the Arabian Gulf Agency, which became International Agencies Company Ltd (INTERCOL), founded by the late Mr Ali Abdul Rahman Al Wazzan. When the Central Bank of Bahrain began regulating insurance, the relationship was formalised: The New India Assurance Co. is the licensee and INTERCOL its exclusive Appointed Representative.
For more than six decades New India, supported by INTERCOL, has served Bahrainis, expatriates and the wider community in general insurance, and met the reinsurance needs of GCC insurers. Day-to-day business is managed by the agents under the company's supervision; underwriting, claims settlement, AML and compliance, and customer grievances are handled directly by the company's representative.
About INTERCOL
From modest beginnings in 1957 representing a single shipping company, INTERCOL is today a diversified, 100% Bahraini-owned company representing more than 200 leading corporations. It was founded by the late Ali Abdul Rahman Al Wazzan and Mr Sadiq Mohammed Al Baharna, and was the first company of its kind in Bahrain to achieve ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification company-wide.
